Matt Linnegar

Chief Executive Officer

Matt Linnegar joined the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation as Chief Executive in June, 2014. It is the first time in the 22-year history of the Foundation that a member of its alumni has stepped into the Chief Executive’s role. Matt completed Course 7 of the Foundation’s prestigious Australian Rural leadership program in 2001.

Matt's prior leadership roles include CEO of the National Farmers’ Federation, General Manager, Corporate and Customer Operations with Murrumbidgee Irrigation Limited and Executive Director of the Ricegrowers’ Association of Australia. Matt is committed to the advancement of rural, regional and remote Australia and has strong linkages through the farming, agribusiness and regional Australia sectors. Matt is a strong supporter of leadership development as a critical factor to the success of rural, regional and remote Australia.

He holds a degree in Applied Science (Systems Agriculture) from the University of Western Sydney (Hawkesbury), is a graduate of the Australian Rural Leadership Program and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Graham Smith

Facilitator - Australian Rural Leadership Program

Graham Smith coordinates the Australian Rural Leadership Program. His recent career included roles in the Senior Executive Service of the Australian Public Service and General Manager of Questacon –The National Science and Technology Centre. His earlier career included establishing a Plant Science Education Centre for CSIRO and secondary teaching. He also worked in the Federal Department of Finance and ACT Parks and Conservation.

Graham grew up in north western NSW and has strong family connections with rural Australia. He has also had a long work history with rural, regional and remote Australian communities. His public sector work has been recognised by an Australia Day Medallion and Australian Public Service departmental award for leadership. Graham has a committed professional interest in Indonesia and its fast developing economic and cultural relationships with Australia. 

 

Philippa Woodhill

Manager - Partner relations

Philippa Woodhill works across all the areas of the Foundation to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to grow and enhance the Foundation's relationship with its partners and stakeholders. She has oversight of the fundraising and communications strategy and supports business development. She is a Board Director of the Commonwealth Study Conference Inc., of which she is an alumnus of the 2007 Study Conference to India. Prio to jiong the ARLF in 2006, Philippa was an Australian Volunteer in the Pacific. Her background includes education, sports and network development and she has served on a number of community boards.

Andrea Hogg

Coordinator - Fundraising and Programs

Andrea spent a year at the Foundation in 2012/13 and has recently returned after a role as Donor Relations Manager at Alzheimer’s Australia National Office. She returns to offer a range of skills gleaned in a variety of backgrounds including education, elite sport, international development, fundraising, marketing and events management. She is responsible for the design and delivery of a range of Foundation projects related to leadership short programs, business development and fundraising, events and data management. She is looking forward to managing a range of interesting projects for the Foundation, alongside her committed colleagues.

Michelle Wickson

Coordinator - Finance and Governance

Michelle is responsible for the financial administration of the Foundation including providing support to members of the team and Board.

Michelle holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from University of Canberra and will be commencing her CPA in 2015. She has experience in the NFP sector formally working as the Finance Manager for Early Childhood Australia. She developed her love of the outdoors through childhood years living in Glenbrook in the Blue Mountains, and time spent on her grandparents' property near Oberon.

Charlie Morrice

Manager - Leadership Programs

Charlie manages all aspects of the curriculum and delivery of the Foundation’s leadership programs. He has worked in the education sector for 27 years and his experience in educational leadership includes working with all ages, from preschool to adult. Recently, he was a member of the Leadership Development Advisory Group for ACT school leaders and was Principal of a school with 700 students ranging from preschool to Year 10.

In his early days, Charlie lived and worked in the building industry in Captain’s Flat, Ulladulla and Tuross Heads. He recently spent five years in Rome, Italy, working as a workshop facilitator for business associations and graduate students.

Gemma Gordon

Program Liaison

Gemma joined the Foundation in a part-time capacity as a Program Liaison in June 2016, with a focus on short programs. Originally from a rice farm in the Southern Riverina, she holds a double degree in agricultural science/business. Gemma brings experience in a wide range of agricultural industries through her work as a policy officer for the National Irrigators’ Council and the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority.  

Monique Brouwer

Coordinator - Network and Communications

Monique is responsible for coordinating the Foundation’s network and raising the public profile of the Foundation and its programs. She works in a part-time capacity remotely from Young, NSW but makes regular trips to Canberra.

Growing up on a farm near Cootamundra NSW, Monique moved to Canberra to study her degree and worked in marketing communications in the Australian Tax Office and the Royal College of Nursing. After a few years strengthening her marketing communications expertise in Sydney, she chose to relocate with her family to Young.

Monique is heavily involved in her local community. She is passionate about building relationships and communicating about rural, regional and remote Australia.

Scott Gorringe

Scott Gorringe

Program Director/Facilitator

Scott is the Program Director/Facilitator of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Leaders Program. He is a graduate of the Foundation’s iconic Australian Rural Leadership Program. Scott is a Mithaka man from far western Queensland, with an extensive career in Indigenous education and has addressed academic and public forums on issues such as Indigenous Education, community development and water protection.

Scott holds a Masters Degree in Rural Systems Management from the University of Queensland. In 2013, he was appointed Visiting Fellow at Queensland University of Technology and Adjunct Senior Lecturer at UQ. He is passionate about bringing people together around approaches to create other ways to deal with complex challenges.

Matilda Ferguson

Program Liaison

Matilda joined the Foundation at the end of 2016, as a Program Liaison. She grew up on her family’s station near Wanaaring in far north-west NSW and has lived and worked there in recent years. In early 2016, she moved to Canberra to study a Masters in International Relations at the Australian National University. She continues to hold a close connection with rural and remote Australia. She often heads home to help with mustering and other jobs on the station, in addition to attending events in the local community.
