Cathy McGowan became a Member of Parliament in 2013 when she won the seat of Indi in regional Victoria. She has become the second independent female MP in Australian political history, following Doris Blackburn.
Cathy has worked as the managing director of a company with a focus on building capacity among rural communities and agricultural industries in Australia, Ireland and PNG. Her extensive voluntary work has included chair of the governing body of Catholic Education Wodonga and past president of Australian Women in Agriculture. Cathy has been made an officer in the Order of Australia for her work with rural women.
Cathy has also been President of the Indigo Valley Land Care Group and the National Committee of Australian Women in Agriculture. Cathy is a Churchill Fellow. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Masters of Applied Science in Agriculture and Rural Development.
